This town was established on the basis of the Contract from Saint Germain on
the 10th September 1919, when the town Gmünd fell into two parts – Gmünd was
added to Austria, and the railway station, railway repair shops and parishes
in its surroundings to the newly established town in Czechoslovakia called České
Velenice. The town České Velenice was formed by three communities: Dolní Velenice,
Česká Cejle and Josefsko.
České Velenice has experienced an unprecedented bloom in the past 20 to 30 years, especially thanks to the railway and expanding railway repair shops. The area of Velenice can be rightfully called industrial.
Missing Catholic Church was built in 1935. Two years later a rectory and a park were also added. Another remarkable feature of the town is that the 15 th meridian east of Greenwich runs through building No. 200 of the school. An engraved stone in the pedestrian walk also noted this fact, but has been removed. Very interesting also are St Ann's Church and Masaryk's Historical Railway Carriage.
