Novosedly nad Nežárkou

The community Novosedly nad Nežárkou was first mentioned in 1359, when it belonged to the estates of Stráž. According to notices in the books of the first Prague archbishop Arnošt from Pardubice, it already had its own parson Nicolas.

Worth noting is a Smithy from 1730, St. Wenceslas Church from 1867 and a Johann from Nepomuk Chapel . The silent and broody countryside is wreathed with deep forests, often hidden under an avalanche of fog, which incited the spread of the tales and legends which sprang up there. The wood to the south of Kolenec is called Čertova Šlápota (Devil's Footprint). The name comes from a large boulder on the way from the village to the gamekeeper's lodge Smitka at the Rosenberger Pond. An outline of a devil holding a boulder upon his head and the years 1247 and 1896 are engraved in granite. Under the picture of the devil two cloven hoofs can be distinctly seen. A well known legend is associated with this place: Once upon a time a devil made a bet with a priest that he would bring this granite boulder from Rome to Novosedly before the priest could serve a Mass in the church. He was still running through the wood of Kolenec when the priest finished the Mass at the altar with the words “Ite, misa est“. The devil that lost the wager slung the boulder on the floor and stamped on it with his hoofs. We will never learn the date the devil was portrayed on the stone or what the significance of the year 1247 actually is. The year 1896 is the year ponds were regulated. At the same time that this was done the stone was cleaned of mosses and lichens.

The community Novosedly nad Nežárkou was registered in the Program of Villages Restoration, became the South Bohemian Village of the Year in 1998 and won the third position in the national round.

Younger Kolence , a typical community of the region of Třeboň with two ponds in the village , was described in 1378. The village was established around the free farmstead and the stronghold where the population hid in time of danger. There were similar strongholds in each hamlet, but this one in Kolence was especially important because it was a border stronghold. The garrison of the stronghold supported the border guards, took care of the nearby woods in times of peace, built bridges, carried out fortifying works on the stronghold, and established new hamlets in the surroundings.

The original shape of Kolence, and as a matter of fact of Novosedly too, with peasant lands and a few cottages, reflects the Slavonic nature of our villages - a round village area with peasant lands around it, and a necessary small pond in the middle.

Distinctly younger is Mláka , written about in 1518. This community, together with Klec, Kolence and Novosedly used to belong to the Flughaus stronghold, which was built at the beginning of the 15 th century at the pond of the same name by Oldřich from Ústí, keeper of the castle site of Tábor. About 1 km from the village square in Mláka you will find the baroque Church of theVirgin Mary's Engagement , originally built as a pilgrimage church in the years 1744 - 1769. There is a Protected Oak next to the church, 300 years old, 19 m high, with a trunk circumference of 660 cm.
